Information for Eritreans who have applied for protection
Information
for September and October 2015
This information concerns all
Eritreans who are waiting for a decision in their case, regardless of when you
applied for protection. The UDI has many asylum cases waiting to be processed
at the moment. In order for the UDI to be able to work as swiftly as possible,
we must prioritise which cases we work on. Unfortunately, this means that some
nationalities have to wait longer. Eritreans are among those who have to wait
for a long time to have their case considered. It will therefore be some time
before we can interview you. We have to interview you before we can consider
your application for protection (asylum).
When will you
be interviewed?
If you applied for protection
in 2014, you will be given an appointment for an interview in September or the
first half of October.
If you applied for protection
in 2015, you may have to wait up to ten months from the time you submitted your
application before you are given an appointment for an interview.
When we ask people to attend
an interview, we do not always follow a queue arrangement. Some people who have
waited for a short time may therefore be called for an interview before others
who have waited longer. This also applies to people staying at the same
reception centre. The UDI has chosen to do things this way for practical
reasons. This does not mean that there is something wrong with your case or
that the UDI has forgotten about you.
Do you live in a transit reception centre?
Most people will be moved from the transit reception centre to an
ordinary reception centre before they are interviewed, but this is not certain.
It depends on how many available places there are at the different reception
centres. If you are to move, the staff at the reception centre will tell you
when and where to.
If you
live in a transit reception centre, you will be notified of your interview the
day before. Lists will be posted at the transit reception centre so that you
will be able to see whether you are to be interviewed. If you live in an
ordinary reception centre, you will be notified of the date of the interview
about a week before the interview.
When will you
receive an answer to your application?
At your interview, you will
be told how long you will have to wait for an answer to your application. You
will probably have to wait for one month, but it can take longer in some cases.
The waiting time depends on what investigations we have to carry out in each
individual case.
How long you have to wait has
no bearing on whether or not you will be allowed to stay in Norway. We will let
you know when we have finished processing your case. Some people at your
reception centre might receive an answer before you do. That does not mean that
there is something wrong with your case or that the UDI has forgotten about
you. It has to do with how the UDI organises its work.
While you are
waiting for an answer to your application
We ask you not to phone the UDI to ask about the status
of your application during this period. This will not lead to your case being
dealt with any sooner. Nor will we be able to provide further information about
when your case will be decided.
Information about waiting times
may change. New information about waiting times will be published in the next
information letter at the end of October.

waiting times is available at www.udi.no

centre, please check
